How do I determine if I should do my billing in-house or outsource?

 

Following are some of the components to consider when pricing the cost of completing in-house billing:

•  Time per claim

•  Wages

•  Staff benefits

•  Supervision and auditing

•  Software

•  E-claims clearinghouse fees

•  Hardware

•  Space

•  Office supplies, postage

 

However, to date we have not developed an accurate model with broad applicability for estimating costs due to variables such as geographic region (e.g., variable wage/ salary, office rental, etc.), size of practice which may affect buying power, and software prices which vary by level of power and features ( e.g., scheduler with billing link, automatic e-submission, etc.).
